One Woman's Journey Through Laser Eye Surgery: Part 2
October 10, 2016
In Part 1 of our story about Charlie's journey through laser eye surgery, she discussed her reasons for getting laser eye surgery and he experience meeting the AVC team. In Part 2, we rejoin her after the procedure to get her thoughts on the experience and her post-op care.Day 1 Post-OpI woke up looking absolutely fabulous in my protective goggles with very dry eyes and started my new regime of putting in my antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and lubricating drops, waiting a couple of minutes between each set. I had woken up twice in the night with dry eyes and put in lubricating drops. Once I put all the drops in I realise I can see all around the room to a very high degree. My bedroom is quite long and I can see all the photos in detail on the other side of the room but the faces are still slightly fuzzy. It takes a while to sink in that I am not wearing glasses or contact lenses, and this is a feeling that I have no idea how to describe because it's amazing! But my right eye still hurts a little and both feel scratchy. I get up and spend the day looking like a rock star in my sunglasses to stop dust getting in and because my eyes are very sensitive to light. As the day progresses I put the anti-inflammatory drops in every 2 hours and the antibiotic drops 4 times a day. I am using the lubrication drops a lot more often, as my right eye feels like I have a small piece of dust in it and it feels uncomfortable when I blink.I head off to Eyesite for my one day post-op and see Fran, the optician. She carries out an eye exam to check what I can see with each eye. She takes out the protective contact lenses and checks the prescription.
The moment of truth... My eyes started at -5.75 and -6 and today they are at -0.25 and 0.75! I am consistently reading the bottom line of the eye chart and I can almost read most of the line you have to read to be a fighter pilot. I am pretty chuffed to say the least. The procedure was a success and I can see!Fran confirms that I have a small amount of dust in my right eye which is why it is more painful, but said that it should come out with all the drops and it's only because my eyes are sensitive that I am even noticing. She also said I still have a slight astigmatism in my right eye, which is why it is slightly blurry when I read small things with just that eye. I'm told that should improve in time and the prescription should continue to improve over the next week. They say they will keep a close eye on me at Eyesite. She reassured me all was completely normal.I look after myself for the rest of the day - drops galore :)You can watch Charlie's Post Op Interview here:Things are looking good for Charlie!
